What a beautiful way to display your air plants! This 7″ long purple barnacle is perfect for a window sill planter, and it makes a great gift for dorm rooms, office desks and cubicles, and small space living. Bring some nature indoors!
This impressive purple barnacle comes with 5 healthy, Tillandsia Ionantha air plants. The plants pictured are representative of what you will receive.
Air plants are easy to maintain. They want indirect lighting – direct sun can burn them – and you need to mist them once or twice a week, depending on how humid the environment will be. About once a week it's a good idea to soak the air plant fully for about 10 – 15 minutes, then shake out the excess water (gently!), and allow the plants to dry fully (about 2 – 3 hours). South or North facing windows are perfect – just be sure they don't get much direct sun – no more than an hour a day.
The water you use matters. Air plants get their nutrients from the air and water, so distilled water is a no no! The best water is collected rainwater. We all know that can be a hassle, so the 2nd best water is simply tap water that has been left in an open container for at least 12 hours. This lets the chlorine break down. I use a plastic milk jug and just store it under the sink, out of bright sun light.
